Tectum LLC was founded in 2018 in Austin, Texas.
We are an outdoor living studio. We design and build complete Green Rooms — private outdoor sanctuaries grown entirely with native and adapted Texas plants.
Each room is more than plants. We create the full living space around it:
Green Rooms — living meditation rooms, outdoor showers, and garden enclosures that give you real privacy that grows.
Fire Pits — sunken lounges and gathering circles built into your green walls for year-round use.
Fountains — custom stone water features that cool the space and create natural sound privacy.
Outdoor Furniture — wood, stone, concrete and grass pieces designed to live inside your green room, not next to it.
Outdoor Art — sculptural elements and stone work that turn a planted space into a place with identity.
Most backyards in the Hill Country have the same problem: harsh sun, zero privacy, and a collection of disconnected pieces that never feel like a room.
We solve it with architecture that grows.
Our process:
Design — We study your lot, sun, wind and microclimate. Every plant and material is selected to survive an Austin August and resist deer.
Installation — Living walls, irrigation, limestone, water, fire, and furniture. One team, one vision.
Growth — We don't leave after planting. We manage the first 12 months until your room is fully private and thriving.
We build with Texas natives because they belong here. They need less water, live longer, and get more beautiful every season.
This is not landscaping. It's an extra room for your home, without pouring concrete.
Tonatiuh Meshoulam (Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, 1975)
Since early childhood, his academic formation took place in progressive schools that placed a strong emphasis on creative thinking and artistic expression. He has dedicated his life to art, with over 30 years of professional experience in the visual arts.
His work spans diverse disciplines, including jewelry, sculpture, painting, vernacular architecture, and landscape design. He currently focuses his practice on the design of art objects for exterior spaces and garden design, working primarily with natural elements — stone, wood, earth, plants, water, and fire — complemented by industrialized and recycled materials such as concrete and iron.
The work he is developing in this current phase is the synthesis of all these years of refining his eye and perfecting his design. It is, without a doubt, the finest work he has created to date and represents the most accomplished moment in his career. In a constant process of evolution, his designs achieve greater precision, maturity, and authenticity every day.
Tectum Lab - Onion Creek, South Austin
We don't design from a desk in the city. We design from the woods.
Our studio and workshop are located on 10 acres in Onion Creek, South Austin, crossed by two creeks and surrounded by lush vegetation and abundant wildlife.
At the front of the property, our office: an industrial shipping container, transformed with warm wood into a creative workspace.
As you walk the property, you will find our plant nursery where we cultivate our own plants, and our concrete casting area where we pour our custom pieces.
Scattered throughout the 10 acres are many built samples of our work — like a circular bamboo room, living green fences, sculptures, and our art studio — an artistic elevated house — the built proof of what we believe is possible.
This place is our laboratory. This is where our best ideas are created, tested, and lived.
